SALA Architects, Inc. is an organization of architects and support personnel in three Twin Cities area offices, devoted to creating homes and other environments as better places to live. Their work has principally focused on service direct to the user, the homeowners, in the creation of new and remodeled dwellings. Since 1983 they have served over 4,000 clients through minor and major projects, locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally. Their approach is based on a respect for their clients and the work of the architects, builders and crafts people who preceded them. Their inspiration grows out of a desire to infuse the present with the spirit and beauty of craft that they find in the past.

Founding principal Dale Mulfinger, FAIA (seated, second from right) had this response upon hearing the news; “Peer recognition is magical and certainly means one thing when one wins a design award and yet quite another when winning a firm award. I know how hard it is to assemble a human institution, which balances the dignity and responsibility of honest labor in pursuit of inspired work. And so, after more than twenty years, for one’s peers to spontaneously step forward and salute you for your effort, well, that’s a chest full of pride, and some tears of humility, and a hell of a lot of thanks to all of you along the way who made it happen!”

SALA Architects has been featured in hundreds of articles in local newspapers, and journals, in many books and on local and national radio and television. They have also won many awards including AIA National and Minnesota Honor Awards, LIFE magazine Home of the Year, AIA Minnesota/StarTribuneHomes of the Month, AIA Minnesota/Mpls.St.Paul Magazine RAVE Awards and the Rising Star Award from Residential Architect magazine. They are regularly asked to speak at state and national AIA meetings, architecture schools and other venues.

SALA will be honored at the AIA Minnesota Awards Celebration later this year on December 2 at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities.
