AIA Minnesota Announces 2003 Honor Awards
The 69th AIA Minnesota Annual Convention and Exhibition was held Tuesday, November 19 through Friday,
November 21, 2003. Each year, months before the convention, a Call for Entries is sent out to the AIA
Minnesota architectural community. Firms then gather their best work and decide which projects they
will submit to be considered for either Honor or Divine Detail Awards.
During the convention, AIA Minnesota invited three nationally recognized architects from out-of-state
firms to serve as jurors and review the 119 Honor Award and 16 Divine Detail submissions from Minnesota
architectural firms. They spent an afternoon and morning reviewing projects. The Honor Awards were
reviewed in the five categories of Architecture, Housing, Interiors, Restoration & Renovation, and
Urban Design and Master Planning.
The jurors were Julie Eizenberg, Principal, Koning Eizenberg Architecture, Santa Monica, California;
Ted Flato, FAIA, Partner, Lake/Flato Architects, San Antonio, Texas; Scott Simpson, AIA, President and
CEO, The Stubbins Associates, Cambridge, Massachusetts. They selected thirteen Honor Awards and one
Divine Detail Award.
The Honor Awards program serves as a tribute to architectural excellence. Its purpose is to encourage
a high level of architecture and to recognize the clients and architects who have distinguished
themselves and to inform the public of these fine architectural contributions. The following thirteen
