Architecture in the Schools (K-12)

“Being An Architect” - a flyer link to Being An Architect.pdf for middle school children and high school-aged young adults on architecture and what it means to be an architect. If you are an architect planning to visit a classroom or a teacher looking for resources you may request color copies by calling AIA Minnesota.

DoodleOpolis is an integrated, thematic curriculum for grades 5-8 developed by the Architecture in the Schools Committee of the American Institute of Architects Minnesota. The curriculum teaches basic themes of the built environment in relation to the natural environment incorporating activities which will take students out of the classroom and use resources specific to the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan area as examples and learning tools. Students of DoodleOpolis will have a better understanding of both the concepts taught in the curriculum and the built environment they see everyday. They will develop a sense of ownership for the built environment and an understanding of the impact it has on their own community. Students will feel empowered to affect the quality of their environment.

The example available here is an exercise on sequence. The entire DoodleOpolis curriculum can be rented for $10.00/month. Please contact Greta Trygstad, trygstad@aia-mn.org, for more information.
