What Does it Mean to Have a Research-based Practice?

Renee Cheng, AIA, Associate Dean of Research at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture, will discuss the collaboration between the School of Architecture and leading architecture firms to address the issues of integrating research with practice and providing a structured path to licensure for students. Both groups have direct ties and set common goals through a consortium, creating research agendas beneficial to student, firm, school, professional organizations, industry, and society.

The collaborative model nudges the profession towards true culture change — an expectation that all students can be licensed upon graduation, regardless of their final career choices.

Organized by the AIA Minneapolis Evolving Practice Forum sub-committee.
