DESIGN TEAM: Jeremiah Battles, AIA
PROJECT TYPE: Remodel, Addition
This early 1950s home was a childhood home of one of the owners, but was in desperate need of updates to fit her growing family’s needs. The mid-century design of the original house was respected in the remodel, with a heightened focus on strengthening the relationship to the outdoors.
Interior spatial relationships were enhanced by opening the floor plan, creating a warm palette of natural materials, and adding a large, light-filled cupola to increase daylight, add drama and serve as a beacon as you approach from the street or the lake.
Natural and sustainable materials were used to improve indoor air quality and reduce the environmental footprint of the home. The resulting home has a warm welcome inside and out, is great for entertaining, and suits the lifestyle of an active family.
