The client, president and founder of a prestigious local building company, had a clear vision for his own home, the third he has built for his family in Cottagewood: a casually sophisticated beach house with spectacular views of Lake Minnetonka, open spaces for entertaining, gallery-style walls to showcase art and photography, and simple yet dramatic landscaping to create an organic connection between the house, the land, and the lake. These goals were resolved fully by Peterssen/Keller’s innovative design and Travis Van Liere’s landscaping.
Among the many innovative design elements, the house features a dramatic balance of light and dark finishes including vertical shiplap paneling, stained cabinetry and paneling, Calcatta marble tile, handcrafted plaster walls, and wire-brushed European hard oak floors. The modern lake house integrates easily with the adjacent homes and traditional fabric of the neighborhood, combining elements of classic lake vernacular with modern forms and rooflines.
