AIA Minneapolis and Mayor Rybak Request Letters of Interest for Second Round Community-Based Projects

The Mayor's Great City Design Teams have just completed the first round of projects in partnership with six neighborhoods across the city. With the Request of Letters of Interest, the Mayor's Great City Design Teams seeks proposals for the second round of projects to be conducted in partnership with communities towards the end of 2007/beginning of 2008. The Mayor's Great City Design Teams through participation in community design workshops (charrettes) and case studies, education of the design process and an inventory of each site, all work to educate the community on the principles of livable communities and build better connections between the signature buildings that have recently put Minneapolis on the design map. Locations include Penn Avenue N. and N. Lowry Avenue, Nicollet Avenue and 18th Street, 40th Street and Lyndale Avenue S., 46th Street S. and 46th Avenue E. and Central Avenue NE and NE Lowry Avenue. Residents & Design Professionals Chosen to 'Re-weave' Minneapolis Neighborhoods

Five Minneapolis neighborhoods have been chosen for some make-over design help from Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak's Great City Design Teams. Teams of volunteer architects, landscape architects, urban designers and developers are gearing up to work with residents and community groups in five key neighborhoods in the coming year to develop design visions for future possible changes. Mayor Rybak joined Tom Hysell, President of the Minneapolis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) today to describe the five projects chosen for one of the Great City Design Teams: Nicollet Avenue and 18th Street, 46th Street S. and 46th Avenue E., 40th Street and Lyndale Avenue S., Central Avenue NE and NE Lowry Avenue , and Penn Avenue N. and N. On Tuesday, October 10, 2006, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and Tom Hysell, President of the Minneapolis Chapter of AIA Minnesota, launched the Mayor's Great City Design Teams and encourage residents and community groups to join the effort to create new visions for the City of Minneapolis. The Mayor's Great City Design Teams are made up of architects, landscape architects, urban designers and developers who will work with residents and community groups to develop design visions for their neighborhoods. The event took place at the Depot Parking Lot at the Corner of 5th Ave. and Washington Ave. in Minneapolis. See the full release
