RELi Rating Guidelines for Resilient Design + Construction

The August kCOTE discussion will focus on the RELi Rating Guidelines for Resilient Design + Construction, adopted by the US Green Building Council in 2017. Doug Pierce, AIA, Perkins+Will, is the lead author of RELi. He will provide an update and overview of the RELi rating system including credit samples, RELi case-studies, and pathways to RELi certification.

RELi is a comprehensive list of actions for buildings and districts addressing the near-term shocks of emergencies and hazardous events, along with mitigating long-term stressors and improving social cohesion to aid with stablizing an event and supporting post-event bounce-back. RELi is an ideal companion to any LEED, B3, Well or Fitwell project, but particularly those that place value on maintaining business and service continuity during or immediately after a crisis event.

The Knowledge Community on the Environment (KCOTE) works to advance, disseminate, and advocate—to the profession, the building industry, the academy, and the public—design practices that integrate built and natural systems and enhance both the design quality and environmental performance of the built environment. COTE serves as the community and voice on behalf of AIA architects regarding sustainable design and building science and performance.
