This infill residence in South Minneapolis is sensitively designed to compliment the existing neighborhood fabric in terms of scale and materials, while providing an architecturally satisfying living environment for an empty-nester couple, who had long lived in the neighborhood. Our clients, for whom we had designed a vacation house a decade previously, wanted an unabashedly modern house, suitable for gatherings related to their volunteer work, yet comfortable for just two.

Sustainability concerns were paramount as well: SIP panel wall construction provides maximum insulation, minimum air infiltration and remarkably small energy bills. LED lighting for 100% of the lighting fixtures, does the same for electrical bills, as does the ample fenestration for natural daylighting. A rain garden and permeable pavers help protect nearby Minnehaha Creek.
