This new "in town" North Hill home is the first new home construction in Stillwater to be awarded the Annual Preservation Award by the Stillwater Heritage Preservation Commission. It's exterior is a modern interpretation of the 19th-century vernacular homes in the neighborhood. It is built on a narrow lot and has maximized every inch of space. The new home echoes older Stillwater homes with its wrap-around porch, linear gable roof, and detached garage. Additionally, the use of wood and board batten siding, along with double-hung windows and five-panel doors give the home a traditional feel. However, this home is anything but traditional.
The spatial dimensions are exaggerated with seven-foot tall windows on the main floor that terminate at nine foot ceilings along with eight foot doors throughout the main floor. The floating stairs lead to a vaulted upper floor with transom windows over each bedroom door extending to ceiling. Modern details, furnishings and a simple color palate including black kitchen cabinets complete the home. Built with quality in mind, the homeowners hope that this home will be standing 100 years from now, adding a little piece of the 21st century to this historic town.
