ALTUS Architecture + Design
This “Bluff House” was designed for a family with young children on an open site with dramatic elevated views of a wooded wetland in Deephaven. The goal was to create an efficient modern house that embraced the beauty of the natural surroundings while creating outdoor play and lounging spaces that promoted the family’s active lifestyle. The dynamic forms of the house create outdoor spaces around the largest trees on the property, providing dramatic proximity and acknowledging their presence in the architecture.
The architecture expresses “organic minimalism” by incorporating natural materials of masonry, steel, wood and glass in a sculptural composition of bold forms and unfamiliar resolution that create dialogue with the site.
The interior spaces merge with the outdoors through large windows and the incorporation of exterior materials inside, including steel and wood.
