2019 Call for Entries

This annual award is bestowed by AIA Minnesota upon an emerging architect who demonstrates an innovative approach to design, the emergence of a unique architectural voice, and a developing mastery of architecture.

The award recipient receives a citation and formal recognition along with other winners of AIA Minnesota awards at the annual Awards Celebration event in December 2019, and is promoted in a full page advertisement published in the July issue of Mpls.St.Paul magazine. Additionally, the winner is spotlighted in an e-blast sent to 8,000 select magazine subscribers.

Submission Details

A candidate may self-submit, or any current AIA Minnesota member may nominate another individual.

Candidates nominated by a colleague or professional peer will be informed of the nomination and invited to submit an entry. Deadline to nominate an individual is Monday, April 8 in order to allow the nominee to prepare submission materials.

Entry materials must be submitted by the candidate using AIA Minnesota’s online awards platform. Entries must include:

  • Description of the candidate’s unique design philosophy and approach to architecture (up to 250 words)
  • Brief list of candidate’s professional and/or personal achievements
  • Visual examples of three built, single-family residential projects that clearly illustrate the candidate’s design philosophy
  • Written descriptions for each submitted project (up to 100 words each)
  • Optional: additional documentation that may demonstrate the candidate’s qualification to receive the award, such as honors, articles, or letters of recommendation

At least one of the submitted projects must have been completed within the last five years (as of January 1, 2019). Candidates must have worked as principal or lead designer responsible for the majority of the work on all three submitted projects.

All submissions must remain anonymous; no mention of the architect’s name or firm may appear in images, descriptions or supporting documentation. Candidate’s name and personal information will not be visible to jurors during the review process.

All material much be submitted using AIA Minnesota’s online awards platform by the entry deadline of Monday, May 6, 2019 by 5:00 pm.

Jury

A panel of professionals will be gathered to review submissions and select the award recipient. Previous year award recipients from this and the Architect of Distinction award will be included as part of the jury.

All submissions will be considered and reviewed via a blind jury process that is monitored by an AIA Minnesota staff member. Each juror’s opinions will carry equal weight in the process.
