WoodWorks Hosts Seminar in Minneapolis The Case for Cross Laminated Timber: Opportunities and Challenges What: The Wood Products Council’s WoodWorks program is hosting a seminar in Arlington, Va. that will explore the use of cross laminated timber (CLT) in non-residential and multi-family buildings. CLT is an engineered wood building system designed to complement light and heavy-timber framing options. The seminar will introduce CLT through a series of project examples while considering some of the more challenging aspects of CLT building design, such as fire and life safety, lateral and seismic design, acoustic performance and building envelope. Additional topics will include the manufacturing and specification of CLT, building code considerations and available resources, including the new U.S. CLT Handbook. Who: This seminar is intended for engineers, architects, builders and others with an interest in the design and construction of non-residential and multi-family wood buildings. To learn about WoodWorks and for information about additional education opportunities, free project support and other resources, visit www.woodworks.org. Why: Attendees can earn 2.0 AIA/CES LUs (HSW) credits. AIA Minneapolis “STAMMTISCH” 5:30 PM
Gluiks Restaurant and Bar, 16 North 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55403
http://www.aia-mn.org/ext_about/local-chapters/minneapolis/
AIA Minneapolis “STAMMTISCH” DATE: Thursday, January 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. LOCATION: Gluiks Restaurant and Bar, 16 North 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55403 TOPIC: “Should Minneapolis support the creation of new parks?” (We will look at this from several different viewpoints and hopefully have a rousing discussion. No preparation is needed.) Join the AIA Minneapolis’ Evolving Practice Forum (EPF) for our first ever, Stammtisch. Let’s get the pronunciation out of the way first – Stom-Tish (at least this is how I pronounce it) - an informal group meeting held on a regular basis to provide a forum for a friendly get together, centered around discussion of a topic provided by the facilitator to get the conversational juices flowing. One of the primary goals of the EPF is to provide opportunities for architects to discuss issues relevant to the changing nature of the profession, lubricated by libations and centuries of German tradition. No RSVP required.
