||The University of Minnesota School of Architecture is pleased to offer the Cass Gilbert Design Fellowship, which seeks to foster design teaching and research excellence in candidates who are academically inclined, intellectually curious, and driven to share knowledge. The Fellowship is offered every other year. Through this position, we aim to draw energetic, inquisitive faculty who are also well-grounded in the disciplinary specificity of architecture. This requires a fundamental understanding of design as a unique mode of thought while retaining interest in broad contemporary issues. We seek highly motivated individuals who wish to cultivate a command of design studio instruction. Such candidates should be able to infuse a design studio with both professional expertise and trans-disciplinary research. The School’s primary objective is to select a candidate who can effectively teach design studio at multiple levels of the undergraduate or graduate program. In addition, the candidate’s research agenda should clearly align with or supplement one or more of the following areas: contemporary urban issues in context of sustainability and adaptive reuse use of data in digital design methodology; community-based public interest design. Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate critical scholarly and design research in their area of expertise and provide evidence of a clear and effective way of integrating such interests into strategies for teaching design. At a minimum, an M.Arch degree, or B.Arch with equivalent experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate the potential to develop and teach design studio and other core and elective courses at a variety of undergraduate and graduate levels. The Fellowship is a 100%-time, nine-month, annually renewable, contract faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor.
