||At UrbanWorks Architecture LLC (UrbanWorks), our success has been founded on the belief that great buildings, great places and great returns are integrally linked. We are seeking a Senior Project Architect who shares the same belief.
As a small, collaborative firm (20+ staff members), you will serve as one of three lead architects. We offer a solid reputation and commitment to the multi-housing and urban infill sectors, yet value diversification and will strategically expand into other markets. We’re a talented group who work hard, but we’re not about burning the midnight oil. We are recognized for our creativity and valued for our design capabilities and the high level of quality delivered throughout each project milestone. We believe technology should be leveraged and we’re not shy when it comes to making investments that allow us to work smarter for our clients.
The Senior Project Architect we’re looking for:
You have a solid track record for establishing a high quality process. Your diverse knowledge of architectural principles and practices allows you to successfully manage each step: from producing finished plans to specifications and material approval through to construction. You shine even when working on a large scope project faced with many complexities.
You have the astute ability to combine, when needed, architect and project management to deliver projects successfully – delivering the design of a project, as well as the administrative aspects of managing the schedule and budget.
You’re well rounded bringing an understanding of design based in reality. Your work style promotes collaborative, integrated problem solving to address issues including accessibility, aesthetics, cost, functional and operational considerations, safety and security and environmental sustainability. You also bring a solid understanding of planning, zoning and building codes – locally as well as areas throughout the Midwest.
You have always considered yourself a bit entrepreneurial. You have a fundamental curiosity and are open to exploring things. You appreciate having the freedom to pursue the best design. You’re innovative and not afraid to take reasonable risks. You bring realistic ideas to the table, and push yourself and others to think outside the box.
You are on track to be an owner. You’ve been recognized for your critical thinking, business acumen, and sound judgment not only in your work, but the impact it has to the overall business.
As a Senior Project Architect at UrbanWorks, you’ll:
Continually deliver great buildings. Your strong technical skills and collaborative management style add value in each phase: finished plans, specifications, material approval, and construction.
Serve as the lead architect throughout the entire project, typically multiple projects at a time. You’ll build strong working relationships and effectively lead technical staff. And, at times you’ll contribute to the work of our other architects.
Enjoy interfacing with the client and keeping open communications across the entire team. You’ll proactively resolve complex technical and design issues and work effectively with the team to create innovative, yet reasonable, solutions.
Leverage technology to work smarter. You’ll bring experience using Revit for building design and documentation, and you’ll quickly appreciate that our software is on par with the larger firms.
A few more key requirements:
You are an experienced project architect. You possess a professional degree in architecture from an accredited institution combined with at least10 solid years of proven experience (and a portfolio that can speak to that). You bring a portfolio of experience in multi-housing and have experience across multiple facets including senior, student, market rate, and affordable housing. You also strive to keep it fresh. An architectural license is preferred, but not required. LEED accredited will earn extra points, too.
Your focus is on multi-housing and urban infill. You bring a proven track record of great architecture that builds stronger communities and better utilizes existing spaces. You intrinsically get excited about the multi-housing and mix-used sectors and understand the fast work pace developers demand and the constraints that sometimes come with the territory.
You thrive in having freedom and flexibility. You appreciate having the flexibility and freedom to do your work. You appreciate accountability, high standards and collaboration, but prefer when the work environment is not controlled and rigid (no hawks here).
Your colleagues value you. You have exemplary people skills – you appreciate the talents of each team member and believe that great things cannot be achieved alone. You’re talented and your exude confidence when it comes to your work, yet you don’t take yourself too seriously. You have always been a great collaborator and you value the perspectives of staff, contractors and the like.
Your clients love you. You value the relationship side of doing the work. You understand the fluidity required in meeting the needs of a variety of client styles and projects. Clients and contractors immediately connect with you and learn to trust that they’re your number one priority.
At first glance, there’s strong alignment.
You’re excited. You feel the role is perfect, you sense a strong connection to the culture of our firm, and you meet the qualifications we are seeking.
Great! We’ll be excited to receive your cover letter amplifying your interest and achievements along with your resume and a sample project portfolio at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have questions regarding the opportunity or our application process, please call us at (612) 455-3100.
