The Civil Engineer will work closely with the design, construction, and development team members to develop project designs, construction documents, and perform construction administration activities for multifamily, commercial, and hotel development projects. These duties will include initial site test-fits, utility plans, drainage and grading plans, permit coordination, etc. The Civil Engineer should be a critical thinker and have sound subject knowledge to present innovative solutions and improvements to our developments.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   Analyze project sites and supporting documents to inform the direction of our projects and advise the team of initial site opportunities or limitations including, but not limited to utilities, wetlands, grade changes, roadways, etc. Create designs consistent with the project goals and coordinated with architectural, structural, and mechanical teams. Review due diligence information including but not limited to geotechnical reports, traffic studies, title work, etc. Review government regulations and ordinances to ensure project compliance. Manage city approval and permitting process including attending public meetings and meeting with various city staff members to acquire a building permit. Assist in quantity calculations for budgetary purposes. Inspect project sites to ensure they meet the design intent and relevant codes.

Educate and inform team members on civil design standards as well as opportunities for improvement in site selection and project delivery. Develop standard project expectations. Maintain Company design standards and project approach. Participate in regular internal and external design meetings. Track and record activity on various projects to ensure proper expense allocations. Understand the company’s goal and purpose and strive to continually enhance the company’s performance. Maintain software support and compliancy for AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and any other related programs. Experience coordinating with Revit would be preferred.   Perform all other duties assigned and those that may be necessary to achieve company and departmental goals.

Prospection skills. Excellent organizational and follow-through skills. Ability to carry out multi-task projects. Ability to work well with diverse groups or individuals.   EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s (B.S) degree in civil engineering; and 5 or more years of engineering experience. Extensive AutoCAD, Civil 3D experience Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer in South Dakota. Also preferred: Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Iowa.
