The Project Designer should have broad context and a broad understanding of global and community culture, history, social interaction, and imagery to inspire and inform innovative designs that push beyond perceived boundaries and reimagine the possibilities. The Project Designer is responsible for guiding the creation, development, and implementation of design concepts for multiple projects across all phases in a manner that is consistent with the client program, budget, schedule and GBBN design standards. This individual should be enthusiastically engaged in leadership for activities centered around establishing project direction and design philosophy, planning, programing, graphic depiction and publish-worthy documents. The ideal Project Designer candidate will be: • Collaborative and consultative in approach, working effectively with a multi-functional team • Passionate about the human experience and the impact of Design • Champion of Design Excellence • A visionary leader within the team, leveraging Design to solve business challenges • Innovative and forward thinking; a champion for integrating new techniques, technologies, and concepts into the process • Curious, a life-long learner able to find opportunities in challenges • Committed to advancing sustainability and resiliency through the work • Driven by a social consciousness and empathy to the human experience to leverage Design for the betterment of others • A natural multi-tasker who is comfortable managing competing priorities Primary Responsibilities DESIGN – keep Design at the forefront of projects and bring to life in unexpected ways • Provide joy-evoking design thinking to inform and energize the project team, adhering to scope, budget and deadlines. • Create clear, compelling conceptual narratives to guide the project team’s work from concept through construction. • Go beyond ideation to contribute as a practical developer of design solutions, maintaining engagement throughout project lifecycle to ensure design concepts are continued. • Guide necessary research to provide a thorough understanding of client needs, leading to responsive design solutions. • Utilize and encourage best uses of technology for design, presentation and production purposes, ensuring that all graphic representations and construction documents convey design intent. Project Leadership – lead the team in delivering Design throughout the project • Act as a steward of design intent, remaining vigilant throughout projects to ensure that design goals are maintained and undiluted throughout project lifecycle. • Engage clients in discussions that respectfully challenge and expand their ideas about appropriate design solutions. • Foster an environment with a commitment to team collaboration and meaningful design. • Serve as a mentor for the design staff in sharing design knowledge with the entire office on design standards, practices and policies. Business Development – mine relationships and increase visibility of GBBN in the industry and community. • Establish and maintain close relationships with clients in partnership with Market Directors and Project Managers to win new and repeat business. • Assist in preparing proposals and other collateral materials. • Participate in or lead presentations for acquiring new work. Qualifications and Skills • Naturally curious, always seeking new approaches • A confident, insightful and concise communication style • A highly-talented Designer • An outstanding presenter, able to clearly articulate Design choices and rationale to clients in a manner that brings them on the journey • Collaborative and consultative in approach, working effectively with Market Directors, project teams and clients • A big picture lens, able to synthesize all aspects of a project into a cohesive vision • A natural multi-tasker who is comfortable managing competing priorities • A Design expert who will serve as a mentor to her/his direct reports • Knowledge of and proficiency in Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, Photo editing, Microsoft Office Suite, etc. Experience and Education Requirements • 15 years of design experience with the last 5 years leading Design projects. • Professional Architect License. • Demonstrated experience working on AIA award winning project(s). Physical Requirements Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested. Organizational Relationships 1.
