Vanman Architects and Builders

Are you looking for a chance to grow your career? Does a mix of master planning, collaboration with client committees and colleagues, and days filled with variety excite you?

Do you love to work alongside clients to develop their dreams? Is involvement in the initial stages of design and coordinating with municipalities on site development something in which you thrive?

Do you enjoy exploring concepts in 3D and then presenting those concepts to clients? If any of these questions struck a chord, we’d like to talk to you!

We’ve been designing and building places that matter for more than 67 years. We put our design-build experience to work to benefit clients with streamlined communication and the innovation that comes from having architectural and construction staff under the same roof. We focus on designing and building primarily churches and financial institutions, along with a mix of other commercial projects.

In everything we do, we remain focused on our company core values:
1. Care. We genuinely care about each other, the work we do, and our clients both as individuals and as a group. We care about building things that matter and for the greater good of the world around us.

2. Transparency. We are open, honest, and forthright. We believe transparency results in stronger relationships.

3. Fun. We work hard and celebrate our successes. Our aim is to make the design-build process as enjoyable as possible.

4. Self-starter. We take pride in balancing several projects at once, trusting our team to do what’s needed for clients and one another to keep the right tasks moving forward.

5. Team-oriented.

We believe our team is more than our Vanman colleagues. We collaborate with our clients, partners, and one another to design and build places that matter in the community. The Vanman Team is built on longevity. We have team members who have spent their entire careers with Vanman (one at thirty+ years, another at 22 years and another at eight).

They stay because of the flexibility of the hybrid in-office and work-from-home schedule, the family-oriented environment, and the camaraderie with a team who works hard, celebrates successes together, and develops lasting relationships both with clients and with one another. We are seeking an eager Master Planning Project Architect to join our team.

If you are a licensed architect with five or more years of experience in master planning and design, working in Revit, and leading projects through initial master planning and construction completion, we’d love to talk to you.

The Master Planning Project Architect position is a full-time, salaried role. Primary duties include:
 Collaborating with clients, their building committees, project partners, and Project Architects in the management of projects from initial architectural development through construction completion.
 Leading a project and working as a team to coordinate all aspects of initial visioning, design, construction documents, and construction administration.
 Designing and rendering in Revit and Escape.
 Communicating with clients, city officials, and other project partners throughout the project.
 Collaborating with in-house Construction Project Managers to track project progress in Procore.
 Reviewing and responding to shop drawings and change orders.
 Completing project closeout, including conducting final punch list.
 Participating in regular team meetings and events.
 Other duties in support of project and company objectives.

Your experience should include supporting or leading commercial design and preparation of construction documents for remodeling and/or ground-up projects. If you have experience incorporating structural steel, wood frame, block, and tilt-up precast concrete, even better!

Technical skill with MS Office and industry programs such as Revit and Bluebeam are required. Experience with Enscape is a bonus.

You’ll rate high in our book if you demonstrate excellent communication skills, are highly organized, detail-oriented, are a self-starter people person, and like to have fun. Given the nature of the position and the project focus of the firm, the Project Architect can expect occasional evening meetings (some virtual and some in person).

The specifics: Benefits include health insurance, HSA, paid time off, life insurance, IRA with 6% match, and work from home capabilities. Our office is located in a Minneapolis, Minnesota first-ring suburb. The team is currently required to work from the office one day per week; two days is preferred.
