Kaas Wilson Architects is an award-winning architectural firm located in Bloomington. Our well-managed team of 50+ architects, interior designers, and interns operate in an open, fast-paced, and collaborative office environment that brings design experience and a team approach together, creating beautiful, practical, and livable built environments. Our office is focused on multi-family housing, senior living, renovations, historic preservation, and related commercial projects with current project locations across the country but focused in the Midwest.
The Project Architect will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to plan, design, and facilitate the execution of new building designs, building expansions, or renovations according to clients’ needs, desires, and financial resources. The Architect will utilize past knowledge and experience to improve the project and may have responsibility for more junior staff.
-Utilize past knowledge and experience to enhance the quality of the project, recognize problem issues, communicate impact to the team and seek clarity when necessary.
-Demonstrate a working knowledge of the appropriate use of building systems, materials, and technologies, and research alternative systems and materials
-Demonstrate and utilize knowledge of building, planning, and zoning codes as they relate to the project and its design.
-Assist with quality control for the design function and integrate and coordinate all disciplines into the building project.
-Direct, organize, and mentor junior staff with responsibility for oversight.
-Engage in preparing drawings and specification documents for the Conceptual Design Phase, Schematic Design Phase, and/or the Detailed Design Phase of a project. -Independently apply advanced architectural concepts and designs.
-Collaborate with consultants and clients to facilitate the building process to meet clients’ specifications.
-Own specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client’s needs.
-Create detailed plans integrating engineering, electrical, and HVAC considerations; present plans to clients for review and approval.
-Develop plans and schedules; collaborate on the planning, design, and coordination of large or complex projects.
-Assist in re-search and coordination of materials and products for project specifications.
-Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
-Work in tandem with highly collaborative multi-discipline teams.
-Attend meetings with the owner and contractor periodically through the project as required by Project Manager; record meeting minutes and maintain log of meeting minutes from all meetings.
-Maintain ongoing communication to understand any project changes, design issues or time/budget constraints that may impact initial assignment.
-Assure overall quality, completeness, and accuracy of construction documents.
-Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
-Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required, Master’s degree strongly preferred.
-At least eight years of relevant experience.
-Active board licensure required.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Extremely proficient with Revit and Bluebeam.
-Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
-Preferred experience in Enscape and/or Lumion.
-Excellent problem-solving, negotiation and consultation skills.
-Ability to translate client ideas into visual and/or tangible references such as drawings or models.
-Strong organization, multi-tasking and time management skills.
-Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
-Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
