DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Analysis of Site and Design Alternatives
Develop zoning ordinance design criteria that comply with governmental regulations, noting any variances that may be required.
Assemble current, necessary and available data to investigate the proposed site in terms of size; topography; vegetation; water; solar, compass and wind orientation; utilities; drainage patterns; easements; vistas; adjoining property; noise sources; soils; flood plain; transportation; access and expansion.
Analyze site for physical constraints and opportunities.
Analyze and identify site for suitability to defined program and design criteria.
Analyze interior building functions, their interrelationships and their relation to overall building and site configurations.
Develop schematic alternatives that demonstrate solutions to the project program and architectural criteria.
Select and develop a preferred schematic alternative.
Review designs with the project coordinator for code compliance.
Prepare or direct the preparation of necessary materials to graphically illustrate and document design proposals.
-Design Development and Review
Prepare, initiate and decide the color, type and texture of various finishes that are employed in a project.
Work with project manager and design team to develop alternative systems, materials and details for each project.
Develop material selections and assist the project manager with unique specification aspects on assigned projects.
Maintain responsibility for suitability of materials, details, functional layout and buildability for each assigned project.
Review plans, specifications and drawings of all disciplines for conformance with design intent.
Review documents with project coordinator for most efficient transposition from proposal documentation to contract documentation.
Assist project manager, field and design staff in resolving field questions or construction problems and notify supervisor of concerns relating to problems of conformance with design intent.
Coordinate with other disciplines and consultants to integrate all building systems and relate to budget feasibility.
Develop, train and provide growth opportunities and provide recognition to staff.
Inform design management staff of assigned projects status on a regular basis.
Assume responsibility for special non-project assignments as directed by management.
Participate in short and long-term planning for department.
Develop productive working relationships with fellow Opus employees and outside consultants.
Assist project management staff with governmental reviews and approvals.
Work effectively under the supervision of a senior project coordinator or senior design architect.
Develop productive working relationships with clients.
Meet regularly with the client and project manager to develop the program and design criteria for each project and to present and review the design process and products.
Accurately communicate the design process and product development to the client in a manner which ensures and enhances client commitment and approval.
Initiate and develop new methods and technologies for departmental use.
Participate in in-house technical presentations.
Participate in related professional societies and organizations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and architectural registration
Minimum of seven plus years’ experience in a directly related field with design-build, BIM, Sketch-Up and AutoCAD experience preferred.
Thorough knowledge of architectural practice and construction
Ability to handle architectural production projects of any size and complexity
Strong client relations focus, including excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and effective presentation skills
Strong program development skills, with the ability to develop conceptual design alternatives.
Self-motivated and capable of meeting deadlines with minimal supervision
One to two years of supervisory experience preferred with ability to ensure completion of projects delegated to others and to train, coordinate and counsel personnel on assigned projects.
