Position Summary

The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who understands how to balance the structural design process with the realities of Life Time’s needs and its financial goals. This requires a broad understanding and experience with sophisticated building types, an appreciation of the fiscal and financial aspects of their operations, an ability to filter out the salient and critical aspects of Life Time’s needs and the vision to translate that information into a physical form that meets Life Time’s expectations.

The Sr. Structural Engineer has an appreciation for the creative goals of the design process, and works with all team members to development and implement structural engineering solutions that meet the constraints of time, budget, and schedule. The ideal candidate is able to delegate and leverage skill sets through mentoring, coaching and training staff. As well as being creative, this person exhibits versatility in the approach of design solutions, is an outgoing and personable problem solver, a self-starter and is experienced and comfortable working on a broad range of project types.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Performs engineering load calculations, steel and concrete design, foundation, shear walls, and roof assembly design
Collaborates in multidisciplinary project teams to develop construction drawings and specification documents
Provides strong technical expertise and project quality assurance/quality control to establish and ensure Life Time structural standards on all projects
Oversees troubleshooting of Structural issues that arise in existing clubs and provide technical expertise to successfully resolve such issues
Be involved early in projects to review and provide input and guidance regarding the geotechnical report and any unique site or building challenges
Engineering consultant oversight: Reviews work, assesses performance, provides guidance, collects learnings, establishes and communicates design strategies and criteria, challenges
Works with our preferred structural consultant partners to ensure consistency between all projects
Provides Engineering leadership with feedback on partners and consultants
Champions cost, risk and life-cycle studies to maximize value of Life Time investments
Provides direction to structural engineers to produce structural designs, including quality control checks of decisions, details and calculations
Provides direction to structural designers to produce CAD drawings, including quality control checks of final drawings
Oversees drawing coordination with other disciplines to ensure well-integrated building design, QA/QC of consultant and in-house design and drawings
Oversees collaboration with Life Time Construction on Prototype and Project-specific drawing changes and with Life Time Construction for change order and contract review, code and conflict resolution, existing store solutions and innovation analysis
Ensures adherence to standards and best practices
Leads the development of and mentor young engineers in the firm
Acts as a resource for construction and operations teams
Performs other duties as assigned
Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
10+ years of experience in the design/engineering efforts and managing teams in design and production of construction documents for complex building types
Ability to work cross-functionally with interdisciplinary teams including real estate development, architecture, construction and club operations
Demonstration of strong leadership, and ability to motivate and develop staff
Registered Engineer and availability to become registered in other states
Ability to work with CAD software programs such as REVIT and AutoCAD-Ability to create and edit structural plans and details in REVIT is necessary
Monthly travel to project sites or as required
Preferred Requirements

Experience in retail, health and wellness design and construction
Experience in prototype and/or large scale roll-out
