A rainscreen wall consists of an outer and inner wall layer with a cavity between them for passive removal of liquid water and water vapor. Masonry rainscreen wall assemblies have a wide array of components and employ different strategies to manage water, air, vapor, and thermal control. There is a wide range of cladding material options and attachments for rainscreens, including terra cotta, natural/engineered stone, tile, and fiber cement. The installer plays a critical role in coordinating with various trades to sequence and synchronize multiple materials in the wall assembly. You’ll have the chance to hear lessons learned from the installation perspective to ensure proper design intent and mitigate wall performance risks.
