Beginning in March of 2020, the state updated Minnesota’s commercial energy code from an amended version of the 2012 IECC, to an amended version of the 2018 IECC (which also allows for ASHRSE 90.1-2016 as an alternative). The US DOE has determined the 2018 IECC commercial provisions will result in 6.7 percent site energy savings from the previous version. Updates will include envelope tightness, lighting controls, equipment efficiencies, and proper equipment sizing.
Don will also discuss possibilities for the commercial energy code in the future for our state, the residential energy code and the reasons why Minnesota did not make the change to the 2018 IECC residential provisions, and the “hot topic” subject of conditioned spaces, porches, and more.
