Who we are
www.brickandmortar.design
Hello, I’m Tiersa Wodash, founder and principal architect licensed in MN and WI. I specialize in reimagining existing buildings and helping small business owners make confident, informed decisions about where and how to invest in brick-and-mortar spaces. Brick and Mortar is a small-scale commercial architecture firm based in Duluth, Minnesota. I work alongside a trusted group of independent contractors who value clarity, collaboration, and thoughtful design. Brick and Mortar (BAM) focuses on commercial renovations and adaptive reuse projects. A focused portion of our work happens early, before leases are signed or buildings are purchased, helping clients understand feasibility, code implications, and risk. We also provide full-service architectural design services catered to the needs of the client. Strong client relationships, clear communication, and community impact are central to our work. We serve clients across Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Position Overview
Brick and Mortar is seeking a candid, detail-oriented Architect or Architectural Designer with demonstrated expertise in commercial conservation codes and existing building regulations. This role supports predesign, feasibility, and select design phases by providing technical insight, code analysis, and clear documentation. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving within constraints, works well independently, and communicates complex code requirements in a straightforward, client-friendly way. Workload will vary by project and may fluctuate month to month. The work is primarily remote, with occasional coordination with Minnesota- and Wisconsin-based projects. Preference is given to candidates located in MN or WI, though location is not required.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and evolving project scopes

Mutual Commitments
  • Ask questions and seek clarification when information is unclear
  • Communicate openly and proactively about risks, constraints, and timelines
