Get advanced building science training and become a PHI Certified Passive House Tradesperson (CPHT). Learn about the most advanced construction standard in the world, how to implement passive principles in your projects, and everything necessary to become a Certified Passive House Tradesperson (CPHT) through the International Passivhaus Institute (PHI). Open to all tradespeople and project team members with working knowledge of construction.

With 4 days of in-class instruction and a hands on workshop, participants will get a thorough grounding in the critical aspects of Passive House design and construction. Participants will be able to apply the lessons learned directly to their real-world work experience, and join a team in making Passive House buildings. Upon successfully passing the exam, participants will receive a five year registration as an internationally accredited Certified Passive House Tradesperson.

This course is for all building professionals: MEP and structural engineers and builders and construction managers working in the design and construction of new build and retrofit Passive House buildings.

Certified Passive House Tradesperson (CPHT) Training:

What is a CPHT?
CPHT = Certified Passive House Tradesperson. The CPHT training ensures participants are equipped with the necessary framework and interdisciplinary skills to effectively convey the international Passive House (PH) standard. After passing the exam, CPHTs are given membership and are listed in the database on the International Passive House Institute (PHI) website for 5 years.

NAPHN’s Certified Passive House Tradesperson course is the premier training program for Passive House construction professionals. Supported by a 25+ year history of global technical leadership by the Passive House Institute – this course is specifically designed to teach the international Passive House Standard to American professionals making Passive House buildings in the U.S. construction industry.

This course is provided in collaboration with the Emu Systems, the Passive House Institute (PHI), and NAPHN Chaper PHMN. All curriculum is provided by Emu Systems.

  • Unit 7: Air Tightness and Moisture Management

  • Unit 8: Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery

  • Unit 9: Efficient Heating, Cooling and Domestic Hot Water

  • Unit 10: Quality Assurance

Exam:

The exam is a multiple choice, structured in three parts:
• Passive House Basics – 45 minutes
• Building Envelope – 45 minutes
• Building Services – 45 minutes
The first section, Passive House Basics, is required. Each participant may choose to take the exam specifically for Envelope, Services, or both.

Exam Only: $400.00 – Please note that is recommended that you take the course. The exam is open-book, pass/fail (50%).
