This course begins with a brief history of tornadoes and their existence around the globe. Following this, attendees will learn about the Fujita classification scale and the tornadic events that drove the F scale’s revision to the Enhanced Fujita scale. The course will introduce the ICC-500 code and FEMAP-361 requirements to show their impact on storm shelter construction. After a short discussion about TDDs and their benefits to the health and wellness of occupants, the course will show a few examples of TDDS as an effective daylighting strategy in an ICC500/FEMAP-361 storm shelter or a safe room.
