Climate change will hit us in our wallets and on our dinner plates, and those least capable of adapting could be the most affected. The gravity of the reports is stunning. But through all the gloom shines one important message; there is hope, and designers are already playing a significant role in combatting climate change.
As designers, we are uniquely prepared to find creative solutions to complex problems. We are experts in finding common ground among disparate groups. We are charged with being ethical leaders in society, and there is no ethical dilemma more profound than climate change.
If you are interested in learning what you can do, if you have an idea for the group, or are curious and simply want to listen in, we welcome you to join AIA Minnesota’s Knowledge Community on the Environment (kCOTE). Our group serves as an education resource for AIA members, and works to equip all with the tools necessary to make better and more sustainable decisions. All voices are welcome. We need all hands on deck, and we hope to see you in 2019.
