Seminar description and learning objectives
IBC requires that toilet facilities be separated by gender. There are provisions to allow for facilities that may be used by all persons. These provisions are spread across several different code sections. The ability to properly identify and understand these provisions takes a bit of research. Additionally, accessibility provisions do not clearly correspond with these provisions so some interpretation is often required. This program will investigate and explain the various code requirements when designing toilet rooms for all persons.
Learning objectives
Identify and review the general requirements for toilet facilities in the IBC.
Examine the options for toilet rooms designed for all persons.
Identify the ways in which Minnesota’s code is proposed to differ from the IBC and discuss the reasons for these changes.
Explain how the use of non-sex separated toilet rooms contributes to the overall safety of building users.
