The Committee on the Environment (COTE) works to advance, disseminate, and advocate — to the profession, the building industry, the academy, and the public — design practices that integrate built and natural systems and enhance both the design quality and environmental performance of the built environment. COTE serves as the community and voice on behalf of AIA architects regarding sustainable design and building science and performance.
The June 2026 COTE meeting is a Book Talk featuring author Meg Calkins. She will give an overview of her book Details and Materials for Resilient Sites: A Climate Positive Approach. Providing comprehensive information for closing material loops and reducing carbon impacts of site construction, this ground-breaking book is an essential resource for design teams to address the environmental challenges of the 21st century. Calkins will explore the topic from a multidisciplinary lens and discuss how architects and landscape architects and others can work collaboratively at the site scale to build resilience. Shawn Swisher, AIA, who reviewed the book for AIA COTE (due out in COTE news in May), will discuss the book with Meg after her remarks and before questions from event participants.
From now through the end of June, get a 20% discount when you order the book through the Routledge / Taylor & Francis site and use this code: 26AEV1.
This meeting will be open to the national AIA COTE network–join us for a robust conversation! 1 hour of CE credit is pending approval.
