Equity and the Minneapolis Skyways — Tour & Talk and Social/Debrief
Wednesday, July 15, 2026
3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
How does equity in the built environment relate to the Minneapolis skyway system? Explore the past and present of the skyways, and what a more equitable future skyway system might look like.
Reflect on your personal experience of the skyways and recognize how others experience the skyways differently. How does utilization differ pre- and post-pandemic, and who has disproportionately experienced negative impacts? How does ownership and financial influence over the skyway system shape its design and potential improvements? How much of the skyway experience relates to one’s gender, race, sexual orientation, disability status, immigration or resident status, housing vulnerability, etc.?
Join members of the AIA Minnesota Equity in the Built Environment (EBE) Committee in exploring these questions through a tour-and-talk format, followed by a social debrief.
The tour route will start at the new Minneapolis Public Service Building, 505 Fourth Ave. S., Minneapolis (main lobby at the base of the stairs) and make our way throughout downtown skyways, ending up at Lyon’s Pub, 16 South 6th Street, Minneapolis.
