Louis Lundgren Award for Service recipients are honored for their sustained and effective volunteer leadership as citizen architects and are widely respected by their peers for their commitment to service.

The submission window for the 2026 AIA Minnesota Louis Lundgren Award for Service will open June 1, 2026, and close July 17 at 12:00 noon CST.

Eligibility

Any AIA Minnesota member who graduated from a NAAB-accredited program more than five years ago and whose membership is in good standing at the time of nomination is eligible. Emeritus members are also eligible.

Selection Criteria

Nominees will be evaluated based on demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas:

  • Dedication to advancing AIA Minnesotas core values—Authenticity, Equity, Collaboration, and Integrity—at the local, regional, and/or national level
  • Engagement with institutional and community leaders on issues affecting the profession
  • Promotion of public dialogue on the value of architecture and design within society

Louis Lundgren Award Process & Past Recipients

Submission Requirements

Nominators must submit an online nomination that includes a brief statement explaining why the candidate should be considered for the award. Additional supporting materials may be included, such as:

  • Testimonials from people who can speak to the nominee’s volunteer efforts
  • Documentation or exhibits demonstrating volunteer achievements
  • Publications or articles highlighting those accomplishments
  • Other materials that support the quality and impact of the nominee’s service

June 1, 2026: Submission window opens

July 17 at 12:00 noon CST: Submission window closes

July/early August: Jury

Early August: Recipient and unsuccessful candidates informed of selections

August: Recipient honored at the AIA Minnesota Summer Awards Celebration

Jury Composition

The Louis Lundgren Award for Service jury is composed of:

  • One AIA Minnesota Committee on Design member
  • One previous Louis Lundgren Award recipient
  • One previous Young Architects Award recipient
  • One AIA Fellow
  • One additional AIA member leader
