Explore Minnesota’s and Wisconsin’s Rules of Professional Conduct. Both states have enacted the Professional Code of Conduct for Design Professionals is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. This course using practice situations from real life experiences will explore how the code of conduct and its recent revisions protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Using real-life examples, we will examine ethical situations which often arise in soliciting, contracting for and performing projects including the recent revisions to the Minnesota rules on construction administration and acting as the initial decision maker. We will look at how the rules impact the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Ethical practice builds confidence in the profession as a whole, enriches the Design Professional’s practice, makes obtaining and retaining clients easier, and raises the profession’s standing in the community. The course covers 31 separate ethical situations to show how the rules work together and to teach design professionals to recognize ethical issues. Many of the issues deal with conflict of interest issues that arise before and during projects and issues related to procuring and getting paid for their work.
In this program, attendees will learn the basic ethical rules which apply to licensed design professionals and apply those rules to hypothetical situations. We will focus on WI and MN, but these ethical rules mirror the codes of conduct in most states. Actual ethical situations which design professionals face in modern practice will be presented such as multi-jurisdictional practice, departures of certifiers, conflicts of interest, plan certification, ethical marketing, and licensing compliance.
Design professionals can be faced with ethical situations in their work that impact the public health, safety, and welfare. These situations can occur between design professional and the public, client, employer, other professionals, and other third parties.
