This new modern home is thoughtfully stitched into the Minneapolis urban fabric.
The homeowner—a weaver and longtime neighborhood resident—wanted a home that balanced thoughtful design, sensible space, and connection to the outdoors. Built on a newly subdivided city lot, the house follows an “L”-shaped plan that creates a strong street presence while preserving a large private rear yard. A linear axis links the sidewalk, entry, and back deck, forming an organizational spine through both house and landscape.
The design takes cues from midcentury modern and contemporary Scandinavian architecture, with black-painted lap siding, bright yellow-stained entry porches, and a clean, warm interior palette of white walls and fir cabinetry. Structural insulated panels and rooftop solar contribute to energy efficiency. Completed, the house is admired and well woven into the fabric of the neighborhood.
