2025–2026 Home of the Month Projects

The homeowners are design aficionados who had lived in a small, midcentury modern home in Golden Valley.

One of the homeowners is a custom residential builder who had previously collaborated with the architecture firm on the renovation of that home. So when the couple purchased this lot in White Oaks Savanna, they collaborated again to design a spacious, single-level modern home nestled into the prairie. They wanted the new home to reflect their German and Nordic heritage, support aging in place and future multigenerational living, and align with their passion for sustainability. The design emphasizes energy efficiency and incorporates an insulated concrete form (ICF) foundation, structural insulated panels (SIP), and solar panels.

Challenges included a subterranean gas line, watershed district restrictions, community design standards, and wetland preservation guidelines. In response, the design team created a discreet, wood-clad home inspired by European and Scandinavian farmhouses, oriented for daylight, privacy, and solar efficiency. Four pavilions house distinct functions, while a tall grade forms a natural entry court. Outdoor living areas and a raised garden extend the living space into the prairie, celebrating both landscape and lifestyle.
